The fencing project on the the Club water, is to enhance the bankside flora and fauna of the River Frome. The plan was devised by the Dorchester Fishing Club, it has been partly funded and approved by the Environment Agency & aided by the Wild Trout Society. The 1st few posts

It is most important to encourage a dense sward of plants along the water's edge, especially coarse grasses with an over-hanging fringe and partly submerged bushes. These provide overhead cover for fish and assist in narrowing the channel to maintain depth and current speed. In addition they provide habitat for insects, breeding birds, water voles, otters etc.

Below are photographs taken before & after the fencing had been erected. You can see how badly the fencing was needed and how nature has corrected years of cattle damage. We now have a wonderful habitat for flora & fauna.
